The Poinsettia was discovered in Southern Mexico by botanist Joel Roberts Poinsett. This day commemorates his death and celebrates his discovery. An angel appeared and told the girl to give any gift of love. The young girl gathered weeds and placed them in a manger. Miraculously the weeds turned into red stars.
