Help! My Lucky Bamboo Roots Are Rotting

Ask the Expert:

Hi, I hope you could help me. The stem near the roots of my plant is starting to rot I guess. What should I do to save the plant and keeping it healthy? I have been watering the plant once a week with distilled water and placing it in indirect sunlight. Thank you. – Regina

Flower Shop Network Plant Expert Reply:

Regina,

What is the substance in the glass?  I am a little concerned that this substance maybe causing a problem.  Lucky bamboo is usually placed in a glass container with pebbles or rocks.  If it is something other than that, it maybe releasing a chemical that the lucky bamboo doesn’t like.

Are the roots soft and mushy?  The plant looks fairly healthy.  If the roots are soft and mushy, cut the top off and propagate a new stalk.   If you are not sure how to do that read our blog post We Are Not Always Lucky With Lucky Bamboo.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

New Flower Shop Brings More Than Flowers

Flowers & Home in Bryant AR Flowers & Home in Bryant AR Flowers & Home in Bryant AR

There’s a new florist in town, Bryant Arkansas that is.

As of April 1st, Flowers & Home of Bryant have opened their doors as their community’s premiere home decorating showroom. This isn’t your typical flower shop. With it’s tall, black ceilings, stained floors, vivid color scheme and cozy lighting, it’s easy to see what makes it so different. Monroe Cranford, owner and high-end floral designer, has spent years mastering his craft and is now ready to show the city of Bryant just what’s possible in the world of floral design.

Monroe Cranford began his career as an Arkansas Master Florist (AMF), then was inducted into the prestigious American Institute of Floral Design (AIFD). He has also branched out and obtained the ranks of Professional Floral Design (PFD) and Certified Floral Designer (CFD).

“In our industry, you really can’t get a degree, you get credentials. And I have the credentials to back up the fact that they don’t just hand these things to you. You actually have to earn them,” Says Cranford. [Read more…]

This Administrative Professional’s Day (aka Secretary’s Day) is April 25th, but don’t wait til Wednesday, send your flowers on Monday for a full week of beauty. Where Flowers Bloom, So Does Hope

Get Well Soon FlowersThere are many things in life that get people feeling down. It could be a physical illness or something mental like stress or anxiety. For some people, it can feel like there’s no way out. This is why flowers are so important and have long been the traditional get well gift.

I think this quote from Dave Barry in the May 8, 1983 issue of the Miami Herald says it all,

“Have you ever stopped to think what life would be like without flowers? I mean, what would you send to funerals? Grapes, maybe. Then there would be something to eat at viewings. But what about high-school proms? If you pinned a bunch of grapes to your date’s gown, your rental tuxedo would be a mess after the first slow dance.”

Flowers help mark the celebration of life’s favorite occasions: new baby, weddings, romance and so much more.

So, why are flowers so good for helping the sick? It’s because where flowers bloom, so does hope. We can’t help but feel better when we see the colorful beauty of flowers full of life and energy. They remind us of better times and encourage us to just keep going through whatever bumps life may give us.

Do you know someone who could use a little pick-me-up? Give your local florist a call to send them flowers, the gift of happiness and hope.
