One of our great member florists wrote this on our Facebook yesterday, and I just had to share. It’s easy to forget that florists are also artists and love the challenge of creating something truly custom, just for you. From a unique bouquet inspired by your favorite band (Yes, I’ve seen Greatful Dead-themed flowers), to using special items to create flowers that are intimately personal (such as using Grandma’s teapot as a vase).

When you send flowers, take your time and think about what special details would mean the most to the recipient. Not just, what are their favorite colors and flowers, but also think about their hobbies, collections, obsessions or anything else that represents that individual.

Creating A Butterfly Garden With Your Local Florist

Attract Butterflies With A Butterfly Garden Last week, while our team members were at the Florida State Florists’ Association Design Summit, they took a detour to visit one of our great member florist, Tim Ryan of Botaniq in Santa Rosa Beach Florida. Tim was in the middle of teaching a Butterfly Garden Workshop right there at his flower shop! You might be surprised at all the things local florists are doing these days to bring back the love of flowers in their community.

This isn’t Tim’s first workshop, he’s done: fresh cut flower arranging, orchid gardens, terrariums and more! Guests get together and learn what it takes to create a beautiful floral designs and gardens, as well as the techniques it takes to take care of them all. For the butterfly garden, guests will put together a beautiful planter filled with tasty plants for butterflies. Tim shows his workshop guests how to take their planter to the next level by adding river cane as a trellis. A simple technique that adds big impact!

It’s that time again. The time when our whole country, and much of the world, sits down to watch present-day gladiators battle it out in a game of strength, skill and determination. Whether you enjoy watching football or not, chances are you’ll be watching the big game on Sunday, February 5th.

Who’s In The Super Bowl This Year?

New England Patriots
Commonly called the “Pats”, the Patriots are a strong team, based in the Greater Boston area. The team has 3 Super Bowl Championships under their belt, from 2001, 2003, and 2004. Will 2012 be their Super Bowl comeback? We will see!

Team Colors: Red, White Blue, Silver.
Team Mascot: Pat Patriot
Team Coach: Bill Belichick
Quarterback: Tom Brady

New York Giants
The Giants are another, based in New Jersey who represent the greater New York Metropolitan area. This team has also won 3 Super Bowl Championships, 1986, 1990, 2007. Will they take home another in 2012?

Team Coach: Tom Coughlin
Quarterback: Eli Manning

Decorating for the Super Bowl

Decorating for the 2012 Super Bowl is going to be super easy — both teams have the SAME colors: Red, White, Blue and Gray. Time to pull out those Fourth of July decorations!

If you’re cheering on the Patriots
Use red, white and blue decor that includes flags, stars, and anything patriotic.
If you’re cheering on the Giants
Use big blocks of color, mostly blue.
