Celebrate International Friendship Day!

You may have seen posts on social media about Friendship Day but have you ever wondered how it became a holiday?

Friendship Day was originally promoted by the founder of Hallmark, Joyce Hall. She chose August 2 as the date because it is the halfway point between two large holidays. The idea of Friendship Day spread when Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho proposed a World Friendship Day during a dinner with friends in Puerto Pinasco. After their meeting, the World Friendship Crusade was established. This foundation is dedicated to promoting friendships of all individuals regardless of race, age or religion. The commercialization of Friendship Day began and it is now celebrated on the first Sunday in August. This year Friendship Day falls on Sunday, August 7! Today the United Nations encourages governments, groups and organizations to host events that promote dialogue and the acceptance of people with various backgrounds.

How Can You Participate?

It isn’t often that you get the opportunity to thank your close friends for the impact they have made on your life. This Sunday is your chance to make your friends feel loved and appreciated. One of the most popular gifts for Friendship Day is a flower arrangement. A beautiful bouquet is a thoughtful gift that is easy to send! Choose their favorite blooms and include a heartfelt card message. When your friends receive their gift they will feel loved knowing that you thought about them.

When to Send A Woman Flowers

Flowers have magical powers that can turn a woman’s day around in an instant. Many women though only receive this special, beautiful gift once a year, maybe twice if they are lucky!

Don’t worry men! We know that sending flowers can seem like an overwhelming task, but we are here to help you out. Sending flowers to your significant other on a day other than your anniversary or Valentine’s Day can really help strengthen a relationship. Take a look at the list below. It shows five times throughout the year you can send a woman flowers without a special occasion. She will be blown away by your thoughtfulness!

1) To Help Ask For Forgiveness
You have said you are sorry but she still seems to be upset. Most likely this is because she just needs time to get over it. A nice way to help her find forgiveness in her heart is through a thoughtful gift. When she sees a dozen beautiful roses waiting on her desk in the morning she will think fondly of you and have a smile on her face. Remember though that sending flowers will suffice if you have not apologized in person.

The True Meaning Behind Parents’ Day

Did you know that Parents’ Day promotes diversity and religious freedom? Keep reading to learn the true purpose of Parents’ Day and how you can celebrate!

Many Americans do not know the true history behind Parents’ Day and believe that it is just another holiday crafted to promote spending and gift-giving. The purpose of this national holiday is much deeper, aiming to strengthen our communities and country.

What is Parents’ Day?

In 1994 President Bill Clinton signed into law the resolution unanimously adopted by the U.S. Congress establishing the fourth Sunday of every July as Parents’ Day, a perennial day of commemoration similar to Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. According to the Congressional Resolution, Parents’ Day is established for, “recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children.” The establishment of Parents’ Day was the result of a bipartisan, multiracial and interfaith coalition of religious, civic and elected leaders who recognized the need to promote responsible parenting in our society and to uplift ideal parental role models, especially for our nation’s children. Since the creation of this annual day of commemoration, local faith communities, elected officials and activists throughout the nation have creatively launched many activities around the theme of Parents’ day designed to celebrate and strengthen the traditional, two-parent family.

Parents’ Day is a time for every religion and race across the country to come together to support the family. Our culture emphasizes self-gratification, which is the opposite of parenthood. Parenthood requires selfless, unconditional love. Parents’ Day aims to promote the need for responsible parenting and a commitment to the family.
