10 Easy New Years & Winter Marketing Ideas For Florists

The holiday season is a very busy time for florists. However, there are a few quick and easy things you can do that will make a big impact on your last sales of the year. Keep these tips in mind as 2013 draws near.

  • Winter Flowers1. Let customers know about special holiday hours by using your website/Facebook

If you’re closing early or will be closed during normal business hours, it’s a good idea to let customers know by doing more than taping a note to the door.

  • 2. Use holiday-themed profile pictures

The branding of your business is important, but if you’ve got time, add a Santa hat or snowflake to your logo to make it more festive for winter. Don’t forget to change it back when it’s time to!

  • 3. Host a photo contest with giveaways

Consider hosting a sunshine-themed art or photo contest to chase away the winter chill. Your customers can bring entries by your store or share them with you online. 1st Place gets a cozy winter-themed arrangement.

Florists & Superstorm Sandy

Hurricane SandySuperstorm Sandy has pummeled much of the east coast and many businesses, including florists, have been effected. We will do our best to make contact with all of our florists in Sandy’s wake, although with power outages and flooding, it will take time.

If you are in the potentially impacted area, here are the key reminders right now:

  • Follow the direction of local officials – if told to evacuate, do so immediately.
  • Make final preparations – If you’re further inland, now is the time to make final preparations. Be ready for power outages and stock up on emergency supplies of food, water, medications, and other supplies.
  • Know the forecast for your area – Sandy is a large storm with potential impacts from wind, coastal flooding, inland flooding, rain, and snow.  Listen to your NOAA weather radio and local news reports, or visit weather.gov for the conditions in your area.
  • Check on your neighbor – make sure they’re ready too.

This incredibly sweet story was shared with us by Maryjane’s Flowers & Gifts, Berlin NJ.

65th Wedding Anniversary Dance

Being a florist is a very fulfilling job because you get to help people celebrate the most important and special occasions in their life. That was just the case for Sandra Hooper of Maryjane’s Flowers & Gifts in Berlin NJ. She was asked to help a couple at an assisted living center celebrate their 65th (no, not a typo!) wedding anniversary.

Original Wedding Photo Wedding Portrait

Sandra was given a copy of their wedding portrait and was able to copy the original wedding bouquet almost exactly. What memories that must have stirred up!

Local Florist Named Entrepreneur of the Year

Entrepreneur of the Year - Monday Morning Flowers

A big congratulations is in order to Georgianne Vinicombe of Monday Morning Flower & Balloon Company in Princeton NJ for being named Entrepreneur of the Year in her community! This is a big honor!

Georgianne, President and co-owner of Monday Morning Flowers truly goes above and beyond in her roles at the flower shop. Georgianne is an avid social media guru, speaks at state and regional florist conventions, makes great videos, writes a fantastic Smile Blog, and so much more!

“We seem to be known at our local chamber as “hard working” retailers and because of our longevity, with both being in business and a member of the chamber. We are sort of known for being there for local non-profit with donations, products, etc. I’m just super excited that they chose a florist for the honor, more so than they chose me,” says Georgianne.

Georgianne works hard to keep her flower shop in the spotlight in her community. It’s great to see they are now shining back on her for all of her hard work and dedication to her business. Way to go, Georgianne and the entire Monday Morning team!

The Colors of Fall – Trends for 2012

Possibly the most beautiful season of all, the colors of autumn are something we look forward to all year. The rustic reds, dusty oranges, and saffron yellows tantalize our senses like no other hues. However, it’s often the POP of accent color that takes everyone by surprise.

This fall, blue is back but in even more colors and shades. You will also see a lot of unexpected colors, such as: lime greens, purples, magentas and other jewel tones.
