  1. Janet,

I am assuming that the plants will be indoors not outside.

I can think of many plants that would work. If you want an herb garden in the window planting chives, basil (globe type like ‘minette’ or Italian), Cilantro (‘Delfino’), lavender, peppermint (or other type of mint), Thyme (I like ‘Mother of Thyme’), Oregano (Greek). These herbs do well in containers and enjoy pinching. If possible pot them in separate containers; this way you can rotate the pots as needed. Some plants will tend to grow towards the light and will need to be rotated to keep the plants from leaning.

If you want flowers try new guinea impatiens, Maracas Brazilian fireworks, Serena angelonia, gerberas. Great foliage plants would be wandering jew, Swedish ivy, sweet potato vine.

There are several possibilities you can even mix herbs, foliage and flowers in the garden. If you want a neat flower that is edible try planting nasturtium. The leaves and flowers are edible with a slight peppery taste.
