Ask the Expert: What’s wrong with my peace lily? I have had my peace lily for several years and in the last few months the leaves keep fading. It still blooms and still puts on new leaves but they also fade before long. I water it about once a week.
My Peace Lily is Anemic – Why?

Mary,
I assume you mean the color of your peace lily (spathiphyllum) leaves are a duller green and not turning yellow. If your plant is root-bound, it may not be getter enough nutrients or water to sustain healthy leaves. Plants exist for only one purpose which is to reproduce. Since the bloom is the way they reproduce, the plant is diverting all of the nutrients and water to the bloom and away from the leaves. If your plant isn’t root-bound you may need to increase the fertilizer and/or water for the plant. As the plant grows water and fertilizer requirements may change. Increasewater and fertilizer by small increments, so that you don’t over due it.
I moved from Florida to northern Nevada last month
with a very large peace lily. It was outside underneath
a cover all time on FL but where we are living now it
is outside underneath a large tree. Any suggestions as how
to keep leaves from splitting and the tops of the
leaves from browning?
There is a large difference in the humidity between Florida and Nevada. You should try misting your peace lily to raise the humidity around it and might consider bringing it indoors. It may take it a while to adjust to the different climate.
