Barb,
I believe the flower is a Lycoris radiata (commonly known as red spider lily, or hurricane lily). I love these sweet little perennial bulbs. Generally planted in the spring, these bulbs stay below the ground until fall when the bloom seemingly pops up over night. They are hard in zone 6 -10 which make Tulsa a perfect place for them.
Although the soft-ball size bloom doesn’t have a fragrance, it is a stunning additions to any fall garden. Fall rains are the bloom trigger. In very dry falls the plant may not bloom at all.
If you want these in your own garden, they can be planted in the fall. However, spring planting is better. The bulbs will need to be planted 2″ to 3″ deep in a place that receives at least half a day of sun in the winter.
