Find Your Ask the Expert: I have planted spring flowering bulb, can”t name it. It has bloomed with daffodils, etc. it is on stem but with multiple small maybe half inch white blooms with scalloped edges. Each scalloped edge has green on white bloom.
Stem looks like daffodil. Any idea. It”s early spring in Tennessee

There are several bulbs that it could be:
- Anemone (windflower)
- Crocus
- Chionodoxax (Glory of the Snow)
- Galanthus Nivalis (SnowDrop)
- Ornithogalum (Star of Bethlehem)
- Leucojum (Snowflake)
Without a picture I can’t make an identification. If I had to guess by the mention of green and white, I would say Galanthus nivalis (SnowDrop). Does your flower look like the one in the picture above? (I found the picture on the Missouri Botanical Garden website).

I have snapped a photo. Looks very close, however ours did not have the outside/longer petals.

I think it is just a different cultivar of the Galanthus nivalis.
We have the same ones that you have, Nan. They are just gorgeous here in North Alabama. I’ve been calling them snowdrops but that’s not exactly right either. Hope we find the right name for them.
Nan, that is actually a similar flower called the Summer Snowflake (Leucojum aestivum). They’re commonly confused with snowdrops but they seem to be more common in the southern states.
