3 Hints from Heloise For Sending Flowers

Recently reading through the always-helpful Hints from Heloise advice column in my local newspaper, I saw where a florist had expressed a few frustrations that can easily be fixed.

She explains that sometimes people are in a hurry and do not fill out all of their information when sending flowers. Not only is this time consuming to the florist who has to look everything up, but think of how your friend will feel getting flowers with their name spelled wrong.

Here are a few tips to make sure you are sending flowers that will make your friends smile, not scratch their head and wonder who sent them.

1. Make sure the recipient’s name is spelled correctly. A florist must write the name exactly as you give it. Double-check to make sure you’ve got the correct spelling, even if it’s a nickname.
2. Use both first and last name. “Many families know more than one ‘Jim or Mary.'” It’s important to specify who you are. Unless your name is Cher, use more than just a first name.
3. Give your correct address for thank you cards, as well as for the florist’s records.

We understand you want to give mom the very best on her special day. Here are some tips to make sure you get the most out of your Mother’s Day flower order.

Shop Local For Mothers Day

When it comes to Mother’s Day flowers, you want to make sure you get the best blooms for your buck – in other words, the total value of your order. Be aware of middle-men out there who pose as local florists (especially on the internet), take a sizable cut out of your order and pass it along to your local florist to fill at a lower price. Avoid this by making sure you are able to find a real address and phone number for the florist you use. Contacting your local florist ensures you get the total value for the price you pay.

Order Early

To get the best flowers for Mother’s Day, it’s important order as early as you can. This will ensure the florist uses the most beautiful flowers and delivers the order on time. They will be able to special order any flowers or accessories you might request.

However, if you’re running behind, most florists will still take orders all the way up to, or at least the day before, Mother’s Day. Also, florists stock their coolers with extra arrangements for walk-in purchases, but it is still better to order early.

Choose the Right Flowers For Mom

When it comes to choosing the right flowers for mom, try to match her personality. You can usually tell your florist a little bit about your mom, and they can create something uniquely special just for her. If you know your mom’s favorite flower, make sure to include it in the arrangement. You should also have a loving card message ready to make it more personal than just, “Happy Mother’s Day.”

Double Check All Info

Before the order is complete, make sure you have provided your florist with mom’s accurate name, address and phone number. If the flowers are being delivered to a business or hospital, more information, such as department, work hours, floor, room number, etc., may be required.

Local Florist Urges Local Shopping This Valentines Day

We had a similar update earlier this week about a florist talking to their local news station about the obstacles of ordering flowers online. Well, we’ve spotted another one. This florist is also one of our great members, Hawley’s Florist in Rutland, VT.

This video explains more specifically how an order gatherer takes their cut of the order before sending it to a local florist to fill. An order gather is a kind of middle man for florists, taking their cut before sending the order to a real florist.

Searching for a local florist isn’t as easy as typing “City, ST Flowers” into Google. You might live in a town with only 1 flower shop, yet thousands of results are found. Many of these are deceptive middle-men who (1) take your order, (2) take their cut, and (3) pass on an order of lesser value for your local florist to fill. Ordering from a real local florist will ensure you receive the best flower arrangement at the full quality of your purchase.

It’s actually really easy to ensure you get the best bang for your buck — buy local! By calling a florist or using their website directly, you can rest assured you will get the full value of your flower order.

You know exactly what you want and won’t stop until you’ve got it. Perhaps the person you are sending flowers to has a favorite flower that must be used. Maybe you have a specific centerpiece idea in mind and you must have it. Whether you are shopping in store, online or on the phone, make sure to ask about the specific items your arrangement must include.

A florist keeps a good amount of flowers in their cooler at all times. However, they can’t possibly have them all. When ordering flowers from pictures, such as on a florist’s website, sometimes substitutions will be made if the florist doesn’t have a particular flower. Same goes for vase style, ribbon, etc.

How To Get Exactly What You Want:

Call! To make sure the specific flowers/vase/etc you want get used in your arrangement, call and ask if they have them in stock. If they don’t have them in stock, the florist will explain what will be used to substitute, or how long it will take to get your full request in stock. If you are ordering specific flowers for an event, this is why it’s best to order in advance.

Matching Flowers To Purse: The Easiest Way To Send The Wife Flowers

One of the biggest excuses I hear from guys about why they don’t send their wife or girlfriend flowers more often is, “I just don’t know what she likes…” Sorry guys, this is a pretty lame excuse!

Here is the solution: Match the flowers to her purse!

If she has a purple purse, it’s obvious she likes the color purple. Red? Send her red roses! Hot pink? Pink Gerber daisies are your answer! It’s that easy!

If her purse is a little more wild, like leopard print, that will be a fun challenge for the florist! I bet your local florist has leopard ribbon to use and a great selection of fall flowers would go perfect with those earthy tones!

An even better idea is to email a photo of the purse to your florist. And guys, don’t make it harder than it sounds, with all the new-fangled, high-tech phones out there now, you can snap a quick pic and email it to your florist in no time!

This is a great way to be romantic and pick out something special JUST FOR HER!

There is a lot you can learn about a woman based on the style of purse she has — whether she likes more of a contemporary or vintage style. Maybe its a designer purse? She’d probably like a floral design with a little more high-fashion. Your florist may know absolutely nothing about purses, but they do know a LOT about style. They will at least be able to read your wife’s style and favorite colors. Give it a try by sending flowers today!
