So What’s A Good Gift For That Other December Holiday?

Happy Hanukkah Bouquet

Happy Hanukkah Bouquet

Well, there are several December holidays that come to mind. Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Hanukkah take the lead in my mind. Hanukkah (Chanukah) and Kwanzaa are major holidays that are very understated and tend to take a backseat to Christmas. However, these are very popular holidays that merit the same kindred spirit and celebration.

But what do you do when you need to give a gift for these holidays but you’ve never celebrated them? Well, there are a couple of ideas. First, hide under your Christmas tree and hope that everyone forgets about giving gifts this year. When that fails, call your local florist.

Hanukkah bouquets are all the rage this year. Flowers are very traditional and fit the bill for every occasion. However, Hanukkah is that special Jewish tradition that is celebrated for eight (8) days. While a new floral gift each day may not be exactly right for you, marking one of those days with a colorful Hanukkah flower arrangement is a great way to spend the holiday.

But what about Kwanzaa? Kwanzaa isn’t as lengthy a celebration and is in no way Jewish. This African holiday is neither political nor religious. It’s not a substitute for Christmas. It does however inspire African Americans to reflect on the values of traditional African families. So what goes along with that? You guessed it. Flowers.

However, ask your local florist to make this Kwanzaa bouquet a bit more special. Red black and green ribbons wrapped around an red black and green arrangement is a neat idea. Another good gift idea is to send a pretty vase arrangement with a sweet card. It never fails to inspire and it lets the recipient know that you care.

So you see, it doesn’t matter much whether you celebrate these holidays or not. Sometimes doing a little research is fun too. Sending a unique gift along with a colorful arrangement of flowers is a great way to show your friends or loved ones just how valued you consider them.

The December Anniversary Gift That Will Outdo Them All

Remind your sweetheart of your Perfect Love

Remind your sweetheart of your Perfect Love

Many people see it as kind of a bad thing to have an anniversary in December. With the holidays in full force and so many people strapped for cash from holiday shopping, it gets tough to give someone a gift and not automatically call it an “early Christmas gift.” And for those with a Christmas or Christmas Eve anniversary, my condolences but this great gift idea will help you too!

Want something quirky and creative? Carolers are popular around Christmas time. What if you convinced her to open the door to some carolers only to present her with a singing telegram! How fun! If the singing courier brought chocolates and romantic anniversary flowers to present to her, you’d be set for the evening!

While this approach is a bit non-traditional, that’s what is so great about it. Just think about how fun it would be to expect to hear “The Little Drummer Boy” but to be treated to a special serenade instead. I know that I’d chuckle and then instantly become putty in my honey’s hands. It’s hard to top something that creative.

Want something a bit more traditional but still special? I’ve seen many homemade ornaments in my time and especially love the clear or translucent ones that contain something on the inside. Dangle a piece of jewelry such as earrings, a necklace, a bracelet or even an engagement ring (big ornament) inside of an ornament. Hang this ornament from the tree. She’ll never think that her anniversary gift is hiding in plain sight!

Another good idea is to have your local florist attach the ornament to a ribbon and make a colorful bow around a vase of romantic anniversary flowers. Not only is it colorful and romantic, but it’s also unique and special. She’ll love it!

A Great Way To Celebrate The Season With Joy And Merriment

It’s almost too easy to celebrate the season this December. Family, friends, good food and great traditions make Christmas one of the few holidays that really move me to the core. It’s probably for this reason that I chose the Celebrate The Season arrangement as the featured flower arrangement of December. And why not? It’s the perfect addition to holiday decorations. It’s colorful, festive, cheery, and nearly bright enough to guide Santa’s sleigh.

Celebrate The Season Arrangement Flowers are the perfect way to Celebrate The Season!

I’m a big fan of color during the winter months and I’m quite sure that I’m not alone in this. It is very common for the bleak white, blue and gray landscape of winter to leave people feeling rather blah. I do everything that I can to avoid the feeling of blah. I want my friends and family to enjoy the Christmas season with me also without the wintry blues. That’s easier this year than the last now that I have the Celebrate The Season arrangement sitting atop the piano in my living room where my very musical family spends hours upon hours each year during the large Christmas get-together.

There are many ways to decorate with flowers every month. Whatever design is your favorite, decorate with colorful flower arrangements this December and brighten your holiday. I guarantee that it’s much harder not to smile when seeing vibrant colors of fresh flowers.

Sympathy Flowers Help The Grieving Process

Being from the south, the relationship between a funeral and flowers is a strong one. In the south our need to show sympathy for one’s loss is great and flowers are our way of expressing that sentiment. Upon hearing that someone we know has lost a loved one, we immediately call our florist and send flowers to the funeral home. Unfortunately in my lifetime this has been my experience too often. But I know that with each sympathy arrangement sent the compassion and caring I feel for the recipient is expressed. I also know that in some small way those sympathy flowers help the recipient through the grieving process. I can’t keep some one from grieving; but, I can do my part to help them through it and flowers are a nice way to do just that.

But I really didn’t know just how important flowers were to the grieving process. That was until recently. First let me say, we all understand how someone can grieving for a mother, father, brother, sister, husband, wife or a friend. We have all grieved for a loved family member. What we forget is that to some of us our family extends beyond humans and often includes the wonderful creatures of this earth. The love for these family members is often as strong as the ones to their human counterparts. In these cases, the grieving process is just as intense requiring the same compassion and support from others.

Six weeks ago I lost my beloved Dudley, our 6 year old beagle/golden retriever mix, to cancer. His death was unexpected and a very emotional time. At the time I was inconsolable and for the first few days after my husband and I cried at the mention of his name. Fortunately for us, we have a great family and friends who showered us with sympathy in the form of cards and phone calls. But one special friend did what all southerners do at a time like this — she sent a beautiful sympathy flower arrangement.

This sympathy arrangement was delivered the day of Dudley’s memorial service (family and friends gathered to spread his ashes in our flower garden).

When they delivered the flowers I cried but at the same time it touched me that someone was acknowledging my sorrow.  Now I know that when you send funeral flowers, you don’t want them to make the recipient cry, but that is part of the process.  For the next few days every time I passed the flower arrangement I thought of Dudley.  At first it made me sad, then the flowers made me remember how much Dudley loved our flower garden.  Although this sympathy arrangement isn’t the only thing that helped me through the grieving process, the message conveyed through the flowers was an influential factor.

Sending funeral flowers is a gracious way to let someone know you care and support them during a difficult time. So, if you have ever been hesitant to send sympathy flowers when someone you know loses a loved one, please remember flowers really do soften the pain.

Charm Your Sagittarius With A Sweet Birthday Flower Arrangement

My grandfather is a Sagittarius who is now entering his 79th year. Shopping for birthday gifts can be a bear sometimes as I convince myself that he has received everything at some point before my birth. Certain that I’m the best gift he’s received since that glorious day, I find it difficult to commit to a gift. My heart breathes a sigh of relief this year because I have found the solution! Papa is getting a unique zodiac-inspired plant. Being very close to his family, I’m also very sure that I can avoid any faux pas with this clever present.

Grandpa is like most other Sagittarius. He is warm, open, optimistic, sociable, honest to a fault, and sincere. He has a fantastic sense of humor and clever wit. He’s not detail-oriented but he has big dreams and sees his plans through to completion. His tenacity is inspiring and the very reason that I have chosen several berried plants for his birthday gift this year. My mother is helping him tend a garden in his city home which will be beautifully accentuated by the berried plants.

As a retired farmer, Grandpa may be more inclined to care for a plant but other Sagittarius may wish for a beautiful flower arrangement inspired by their winter zodiac sign. To please the charming nature of your Sagittarius, contact your local florist to create an astrological flowers arrangement filled with eremerus, eustoma, liatris, carnations, crocus, anemones, or muscari.

How My Floral Tapestry Helps Hide The Winter Blues

I adore winter. It’s my favorite season. Snow angels, snow boarding, snow crème, snowmen and most other cold weather treats delight my heart. However, it’s very common even for me to feel the same dreary blues associated with long periods of dreary winter grays. For this reason, I choose to have Floral Tapestry and other colorful vase arrangements decorating my home to drive away the snowy day blues.

The Floral Tapestry arrangement is absolutely gorgeous. I was viewing some of the new flower arrangements in our picture gallery when I scrolled over Floral Tapestry. The vibrant colors popped. The red gerbera daisies seemed to shine next to the purple, yellow, peach and green accents. Solidago, purple liatris, peach roses, purple “moonshade” carnations and other flowers leap off of the page next to the daisies. It’s one of those arrangements that you crave because you simply must know what it looks like in person. So, to breathe more life into the melancholy transition period between fall and winter, I’m decorating my home this month with the Floral Tapestry arrangement from my local florist.

Colorful Fall Flowers Really Make Autumn Come To Life!

Listen To What These Tulips Are Saying

Tulips are one of those classic flowers that you just must receive at least once in your life. If your sweetheart hasn’t received an arrangement of tulips before, get cracking!

Most people hear of tulips and immediately picture fields of Dutch tulips, windmills and tiny wooden shoes. However, tulips represent so much more than just Holland. The flower meanings of tulips are also some of the most powerful expressions of love and adoration that can be expressed with flowers. Arrangements of tulips represent the perfect lover and frame. But just wait. The flower color meanings associated with tulips make them even more special. Red tulips express extreme sincerity and are a declaration of love.Do you love to make your sweetheart smile? Send an arrangement of yellow tulips which says “There’s sunshine in your smile.”

It’s hard not to adore the sender of gorgeous and colorful flowers, especially one who invested so much extra effort in giving a meaningful gift. Tulips are beautiful, colorful and meaningful—just what she’s always wanted in a birthday or anniversary gift.

Looking For Scorpio Zodiac Flowers ?

Like many wishing to find a unique birthday gift, I’m often torn when shopping for my friends that have a birthday in late October or November. Exiting the fall and entering the winter, this time of the year makes gift giving a somewhat daunting task. Thankfully this year I have found an idea for a creative birthday gift.

As my birthday falls on October 23rd, I’m caught on the dividing line between Libra and Scorpio. In some publications I am listed as a Libra while others have me noted as a Scorpio. These are very conflicting zodiac personalities with almost no noticeable similarities. Between this and the weather that follows the changing of the seasons, I know the difficulties of finding the perfect gift well. The humorous thing in all of this is that the Libra sign is represented by scales as individuals with a greater sense of balance and justice. The power-hungry nature of the Scorpio sign of which I’m on the verge can quickly throw my scales off-kilter. What fun!

The solution as I see it is to send a flower arrangement whose flowers denote certain astrological signs and time of the year. This is a very creative way to show someone how special they really are. For people like myself it is an unexpected treat. The zany mixture of flowers such as dahlias, gardenias, tea roses, gladiolus, and orchids (Libra) with the beautiful blooms of gerbera daisies, marigold, and sunflowers (Scorpio) provide a very quirky and colorful present for fall birthdays.

Scorpios are well known for being energetic, active, devoted, ambitious, thoughtful, and optimistic. (Not entirely bad qualities to draw from when I’m listed as a Scorpio.) Scorpios are very goal-oriented and patient. For friends and family with these qualities, a croton plant may be just the right gift as it has a longer life than cut flower arrangements but still provides the home with the same unique and dominating beauty as the Scorpio.

For both the fiery and passionate Scorpio as well as the cool and balanced Libra in your life, visit your local florist today to create an astrological flowers arrangement that is out of this world!
