Project Hope Raises Hope Of Fighting Breast Cancer–And Winning

Many employees and friends of Flower Shop Network employees have struggled with breast cancer, making this issue particularly special to our hearts. I along with several others from Flower Shop Network recently attended the Project Hope Luncheon hosted by the Paragould, Arkansas Women’s Council. The luncheon sought to increase community awareness about breast cancer.  It also gave us information on what we can do to prevent and cure this disease especially when empowered by knowledge and awareness.

The speakers at the luncheon were very interesting and presented a lot of inspiring information.  Among the speakers at the luncheon were Sherrye McBryde, executive director of the Susan G. Komen Foundation Arkansas affiliate, and Ginger Beebe, wife of Arkansas governor Mike Beebe. [Read more…]

Flower Shop Network Welcomes New Creative Director

Joshua L. Hudson, Creative Director

Joshua L. Hudson FSN Creative Director

Joshua L. Hudson of Paragould, Arkansas was recently appointed to the position of Creative Director with Flower Shop Network. As a personal friend of mine and most other Flower Shop Network employees, I thought a blog today would be as good a way as any to let everyone know how proud we are of Josh for his exceptional talent.

Josh began with Flower Shop Network in 2005 and has since shown himself to be a creative genius. Not wanting to give him a big head with the professional title of “Creative Genius,” Josh earned the promotion to “Creative Director” instead but it amounts to the same thing.

Did you know that Josh’s creative talents have been splashed across Times Square in New York City.  A graphic art ad submitted by Flower Shop Network to Dell Small Business Division during their small business competition was one of the winners.  The ad ran on one of the large Times Square monitors for several days during the summer of 2007.  The concept for the ad was spearheaded and designed by Josh. Wow! Want to know what the winning design looked like? See Flower Shop Network’s Times Square advertisement.

Josh has also had artwork featured at the 2006 AIGA Graphic Design Exhibitions at Arkansas State University and Missisippi State University. Not stopping there (and this is the short list, mind you), Josh has also had artwork featured at the 2006 Art Student Union Exhibition at Arkansas State University. I was also a student at this time and had no idea of the talent behind the art I was privileged to see daily. I am still amazed by some of his accomplishments and am completely sure that his talent and personality will take him very far in life.

Josh’s largest and most recent project to date is the new Floral Selection Guide from Flower Shop Network. The new selection guide allows consumers to quickly see a wide range of arrangements. Once the selection is made, the florist can view the product recipe or call another sending shop with the information. Josh designed every aspect of the selection guide from the font styles to the color schemes. The Floral Selection Guide is easily one of Josh’s finest works and as such as earned him this recent promotion.

Though you’re already familiar with Josh’s work with Flower Shop Network, Wedding and Party Network, and FGmarket, you may also view Josh’s work at www.JoshuaLHudson.com. Way to go, Josh!

Did You See Lifetime Television This Morning

We all know that sending flowers is a great way to create memories with the gifts we give to our family and friends. In fact last April, I even wrote a newsletter about it for Flower Shop Network called Flower Memories; detailing the wonderful memories I had from the flowers I had received as gifts throughout the years.  Well this morning Lifetime Television explored the issue of sending flowers using a real local florist.

Growing up we had a very close relationship with our local florist and it was easy to send flowers to my family and friends because most of them lived in the same town as I did.  Of course, today my family and friends are scattered across the country and I often turn to the internet to send them things including flowers.  In fact even before I came to FSN as the Plant Expert, I used the Flower Shop Network directory to find a local florist where ever my friends and family lived.  I did this because I knew that Flower Shop Network verified the loaction of the florists in its directory. As a result I have been able to talk to the florist in that town and every flower gift I have sent was a pleasent experience.  However not everyone is aware of the benefits of using a local florist.  So The Balancing Act segment that aired on Lifetime Television this morning should be very helpful to consumers across the nation.  Danielle Knox (The Balancing Act host) asked questions that most people ordering flowers using the interent needed answers to and Brock Atwill (FSN President) gave very helpful tips.

If you didn’t see the segment, I highly recommend watching it.  I actual got a few tips from it my self and the shot of the flower arrangement from Petal Designs made me want to send flowers to someone in Boca Raton Florida.  I loved the color and texture combination that Dan Harvill used in the arrangement.  That alone makes watching the segment worth it.

Flower Shop Network president Brock Atwill will sit down with Danielle Knox, The Balancing Act host, to inform consumers of the advantages of sending flowers online through a real local florist. During the interview Brock will outline ways consumers can verify that an online florist is a real local flower shop and not an order-gather.

This is just one more way FlowerShopNetwork.com is ensuring that our retail florist members have the best visibilty possible on the Internet and offline as well.  It is, also, one more way we give consumers the floral information they need to make their lives easier.

Make Sending Flowers An Exciting Adventure!

It’s already time for another anniversary with your sweetheart? Congratulations! Whether interested in sending flowers from your local florist or delivering an anniversary arrangement in person under some clever guise, giving flowers warms the heart. It’s a fail safe way to say “I love you” this year and every year. However, sometimes you simply have to spice up the gift ideas so that your honey will feel special each time. Flower Shop Network has gone further than just delivering romantic anniversary flowers. To make your husband or wife feel special, we’re giving you another great gift idea for your anniversary this year!

Surprise your sweetie by presenting him or her with a romantic anniversary bouquet. This time instead of a traditional card or greeting card, fold up a treasure map that leads to a more special surprise. Try your hand at an authentic treasure map by drawing a dashed line from your starting point to a big “X” where the present will be. Be creative with the rest of the map by drawing pictures, lightly burning the edges of the paper or soaking it in tea, coffee, or soda for an aged finish that can still be read after drying.

The adventurous side in all of us comes out the moment we see a treasure map. Watch your love’s eyes light up as they spring to life in search of the prize at the end. The treasure can be something as simple as a sweetly decorated bathtub where a romantic bubble bath has been drawn next to a shimmering sparkle of candlelight and softly scented bath supplies. Hide smaller gifts in a drawer, cabinet, or place in a focal point in the room. Jewelry in small boxes are great for nestling among the flowers of an arrangement sitting on a simple table in the room. Another great way to hide a jewelry surprise is to fold an oversized piece of paper in half, draw an “X” on one side, then stand on the table so that it cleverly hides the ring or necklace box. My brother proposed to his wife this way so obviously this gift idea goes over well!

There are many more wonderful ways to tell your partner that you’re glad to have shared another year (or even months) with him or her. For the adventurous spirit, X marks the spot for a great anniversary! Love this idea? Used it before? Don’t forget to stop by and tell us how it worked for you.

Flower Shop Network Announces Florists Convention Winners

Flower Shop Network recently enjoyed a trip to the 2008 Arkansas Florists Association Convention in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Florists attending displayed their designs, network with other florists, and learn more about the latest tips and trends in the floral industry. While visiting the Flower Shop Network booth, visitors were given the opportunity to win either a free premium listing in Flower Shop Network’s online directory of florists or a complimentary website package to accommodate a directory listing. A drawing was held Monday, August 18 to determine the winners.

Flower Shop Network would like to congratulate DeAnna Allgood at The Morning Glory Flowers & Gifts in Lake Village, Arkansas on winning the complimentary premium listing. The premium listing includes a one-year membership to Flower Shop Network. Located in Lake Village, AR, this florist also delivers to Eudora, Arkansas as well as Dermott, Arkansas.

Congratulations to Carrie Skolarski at Buzy Bee in Ozark, Arkansas for winning the complimentary website package. Each e-commerce enabled website allows the holder to receive orders via the Internet. Customers also gain 24-hour access to information about the flower shop such as contact information, delivery location information, flower arrangement design styles and more. The Ozark, Arkansas florists at Buzy Bee also delivers flowers to these cities: Coal Hill, Arkansas; Cecil, Arkansas; Charleston, Arkansas; and Altus, Arkansas.

Each convention is a fun time for florists as well as Flower Shop Network representatives. Annual florists and flower shows are great times to renew friendships as well as make new friends in the floral industry. Joe Hays, one of the network coordinators representing Flower Shop Network, returned the day after the show with a particularly amazing story of goodness and generosity from one of Flower Shop Network’s kind friends in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.

Read how Karen Williams florist’s disaster turned into a benefit for the community.

It is easy to make quality friends such as Karen Williams of Flower Basket in Walnut Ridge, AR who met Ms. Rhonda Sade at the conference and immediately became friends. Ms. Sade is a floral designer for Northwest Arkansas Florist in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She, along with many others at the convention, was taken by the outgoing nature and shared interest in flowers of Ms. Williams. These kinds of connections are common occurrences at the annual florists conventions which is why Flower Shop Network proudly attends these conferences each year.

Flower Shop Network also visited the Texas State Florists Association Convention in July. Congratulations to Nora Anne’s Flower Shop in Sugar Land, Texas who won a complimentary one-year listing in the Flower Shop Network online directory of Sugar Land, Texas florists. Nora Anne’s Flower Shop also delivers flowers to: Southwest Houston, Texas; Missouri City, Texas; Richmond, Texas; Rosenberg, Texas; Stafford, Texas; and Meadows Place, Texas.

East Sandwich Flower Shop Has The Golden Touch

I’m one of those people who plays the lottery and hoping to be a winner. What makes me a little different is that even if I don’t win, I am truly excited for the person who does. So every time a Flower Shop Network‘s member wins an award or is recognized for their work, I get as excited as the flower shop owner and their staff.

Of course we really are not surprised when one of our members receives recognition. We know what dedicated and skilled professionals they are and the quality of their work. Our network coordinators really try to get to know our members (which are real local flower shops and florists) on a personal level.

In fact Shelly one of our network coordinators said shortly after David Johnson at East Sandwich Flower Shop joined our network that his flower shop had the golden touch. And now it seems that others are recognizing the talents of this East Sandwich Massachusetts florist and their golden touch as well. So when this press release about East Sandwich Flower Shop came across my desk yesterday, it made my day. The press release announced the fact that the Cape Cod Living Magazine recently awarded The East Sandwich Flower Shop a Gold Medal in customer service.

So Shelly, Flower Shop Network and I want to personally congratulate David and his staff at East Sandwich Flower Shop on receiving recognition for their outstanding customer service.
