Floral Magic For New Year’s Day

Chill Out

The old year is fading away as a new one finally begins to push its way through the soil. All those good things (and maybe a few not so good things) from the last 52 weeks are drawing to a close leaving nothing but opportunity and newness of life ahead. So what’s the best way to celebrate this new dawning? Flowers, of course!

An Explosion of Color

Flowers are infinitely versatile. They are capable of expressing deep emotion, but they can also showcase the life of the party. (And what’s New Year’s Eve without a party?)

So even if you don’t have access to the cool, fire-based fireworks in your area, you can still get an explosion of color with flowers from your local florist. They make a gorgeous display of breathtaking beauty, and the perfect gift for any friend or loved one. (Feel free to provide the sound effects yourself. Pop … zoom … bang!)

Loving Local

As always when buying flowers, you want to head down to your corner flower shop. The folks there not only work hard to bring you the most beautiful arrangements available, the value is sure to be better than anything you’d find online.

And the opportunity to speak with your flower designer and plan your arrangement face-to-face cannot be overstated. You know you’re getting exactly what you want … every time!

This year, before you head to the party, don’t forget to stop by your local florist and pick up some flowers!

Celebrate This Veterans Day with Flowers

Veterans Day is Tuesday November 11th, 2014!

This holiday is all about honoring each and every one of the men and women who serve or have served in any branch of the armed forces. Can there be any better reason to give the gift of flowers?

Honor Them With Flowers

Flowers are the perfect gift for any occasion, and they have a language all their own. Couple that with the talent and skill offered by your local florist and you have something personalized and beautiful that says exactly what you want to say exactly how you want to say it. Your local florist can create a themed arrangement, one featuring the veteran’s favorite flower or even one as a memorial to a fallen loved one.

Personalize with Local

When you buy local, you have the option of being as detailed in the process as you like. You can outline what you want down to the smallest detail or just tell them to make it beautiful. You can choose from what’s available or have a custom piece made just for you. When you shop local, you know you’ll get what you paid for and more!

We use Veterans Day to say ‘Thank You’ to those who fought and still fight for our daily freedoms. Shouldn’t you say it with flowers?

Make Remembrance Day Special with Flowers

Remembrance Day is Tuesday November 11th, 2014! Originally began as a tribute to those who fell in WWI, it has grown into a memorial for all those who have died in armed conflict, both military and civilian. What better way to make the day special than with flowers?

Floral Tradition

Flowers have long been a tradition in Canada’s Remembrance Day celebration, specifically the red poppy. This flower was adopted in 1921 as the “Remembrance Poppy”. And though artificial poppies are widely available, nothing beats the beauty and grace found in a fresh cut flower. You can walk into any flower shop in town and find a beautiful bloom to wear near your heart.

The poppy has also been incorporated into wreaths laid on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as part of the national Remembrance service, and recently spectators of the event have placed their own red poppies on the memorial after the service concludes.

Local Care

There are many ways to use the red poppy to commemorate the fallen, and your local florist knows them all. Whether making them the centerpiece of a gorgeous arrangement to decorate the home or as part of a bouquet to lay on a tomb, your local florist will make exactly what you want.

Is there someone special you want to honor? They can put together an arrangement specifically personalized to meet your needs.

Fabulous Flowers for Friendship Day

Don’t forget the flowers this Sunday, August 3rd. It’s Friendship Day!

Friendship Day: Origins

It began in 1930 as a holiday promoted by Hallmark. It struggled to catch on and was all but dead by the mid-1940’s. But even though it was never the card-giving holiday that greeting card companies had hoped it would be, the holiday found some purchase in Asia which kept it alive to more modern times.

In 1998 in an effort to revitalize the holiday, Nane Annan, wife of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, declared Winnie the Pooh as the world’s Ambassador of Friendship. The promotional event was co-sponsored by the U.N. Department of Public Information and Disney Enterprises, and co-hosted by Kathy Lee Gifford. There is some debate on whether Friendship Day should be celebrated on July 30th or the first Sunday in August, but whichever day you choose to honor, flowers are inarguably the gift you should be giving!

Friendship Day: Now

Friendship Day is considered the day to say, “Thank you” to the only person you had to call when your car died on the side of the road, the one who stood in line with you for hours to buy tickets to see your favorite band and the one who offered a sympathetic ear when you broke up with your significant other. She is your chosen family, the one who is part of your life because you have loved each other for years, have so much in common, and share so many memories that losing her would be like losing your heart.

Friendship Day is about giving back to the one(s) who has given so much. It’s about making a new memory, sharing a new experience, and creating a new tradition.

Always Flowers

When looking for the perfect gift, flowers are always the right choice. They provide so many options that incorporate other gift giving ideas. Want to get your bestie a gift card for their preferred music site? It’s a great idea, but gift cards don’t offer much in their presentation. To jazz it up, bring that gift card to your local florist and let them put together a themed arrangement! They can base it off your friend’s favorite band or just music in general. And that’s just one of a multitude of great gift-giving ideas!

Your local florist is a flower artist. They can create something you’ll love and personalize it so that it’s not just a gift for your friend, it’s a gift that symbolizes your friendship. So contact your local florist and see what they can put together for your Friendship Day celebration!

Flowers: The Perfect Gift for Any Occasion

Flowers Always Fit the Bill

There’s no need to wrack your brain to think of the perfect gift when flowers always fit the bill. What makes them perfect for any situation?

Flowers are:

  • Always in style
  • Infinitely customizable
  • Used for home decoration
  • Worn for personal decoration
  • The perfect thing to brighten someone’s day

There’s a reason flowers are traditionally used at weddings, on first dates, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter, beside hospital beds and at funerals. These gorgeous gifts of nature provide amazing decoration that can’t be matched. They symbolize new love, deep passion and even embody sizzling romance when the occasion calls for it. Flowers can offer comfort and support in a time of emotional distress and provide a ray of sunshine on an otherwise dreary day. In fact, there’s little flowers can’t do!

Support Your Local Florist

And that includes help out the local economy! Every time you walk into your local florist shop to buy that next floral masterpiece, you’re not only getting a beautiful piece of local art, you’re supporting a local business. And the best part? The flowers you get from that local shop are sure to be fresh cut and hand-arranged, and you will have the opportunity to get that arrangement customized to fit your specific need!

So when you find yourself searching for the perfect gift, remember your local florist and the beauty they offer. And it doesn’t matter why you need the gift. Flowers are perfect for any occasion!

Spread the Luck on St. Patrick’s Day!

St. Patrick's Day 2014

St. Patrick’s Day is coming. How do you plan on celebrating?

Maybe you’re hitting the streets to watch a parade, sharing a green beer with friends or just wearing a green shirt to ward off any pinches. Part of what makes celebrating St. Patrick’s Day so fun is the idea of the “Luck of the Irish.” This is the hope that celebrating the vibrant culture of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day will mean a little extra luck for you, me and everyone else.

Why Do The Irish Get All The Luck?

The luck of the Irish is thought to mean “extreme good fortune.” There is no solid answer about where the phrase originally came from though. Some claim it has roots in a legend about an Irishman who had a few too many drinks and accidentally walked over a cliff’s edge but his life was saved by landing on a bed of green clovers. Others say it is an American invention that popped up around the time of the Gold Rush and referred to a number of Irish American immigrants who found fortunes in the West.

However it started, it is now widely accepted that having the luck of the Irish means you have good fortune on your side.

Get Lucky With Flowers!

So you can’t predict when and where luck will strike this St. Patrick’s Day but you can certainly make someone special feel lucky. By sending them flowers of course! Better yet GREEN flowers that symbolize luck, prosperity and renewal!

Make your hunny feel lucky to have you with a fresh-cut arrangement. Turn her friends green with envy at the office or brighten the house with a bright blooming bouquet she won’t soon forget. You’ll start feeling lucky when you see flowers bring big smiles this St. Patrick’s Day.

Know someone that could use a little pick-me-up? Your mom, a friend from college or your running buddy? Send them some potted shamrocks this St. Patrick’s Day to help spread the luck around.

Contact your local flower shop to see what specials they have going for the holiday. You’ll feel like a billion bucks for bringing some joy and good luck into someone’s life this St. Patrick’s Day.

Lucky You!

Get Colorful This Valentine’s Day

Get Colorful

Think Valentine’s Day is all about the red and pink? Well, it doesn’t have to be! Surprise your special someone with beautiful fresh-cut flowers in unexpected colors that will really knock ’em for a loop.

Let’s assume if you found this article you have already had the brilliant idea to send your sweetheart some flowers. Congratulations! You are going to make someone very happy because that’s what flowers do. Sending V-Day flowers should be fun and exciting so don’t think plain red roses are your only choice. I mean, if those are her favorite, then by all means, don’t disappoint. But maybe she likes variety. Maybe she sees herself a trend-setter. Maybe she just likes surprises!

If she doesn’t have her heart set on something specific, a colorful expertly arranged bouquet of unique flowers might be just the ticket to her heart this year. Your local florist can help!

Ask A Florist For Something Special

Shopping online for flowers is a great tool for finding something you are looking for. And that’s the way of savvy tech folks after all. Add to cart and you are done! But for something extra special, go a step further. Talk to your florist in person or on the phone. Why? Because florists can tell you what flowers they have in stock right now, what is looking the freshest and brightest and tell you about more unusual varieties that might not be listed online. So you’ll probably be spending the same amount of money but are more likely to get something as unique as your love for your main squeeze.

Link Color to a Memory

Valentine’s Day is about showing someone you care. Guys often lament they don’t know what girls want but a sure-fire way to impress a lady is to give a gift that shows that you notice things about her. This goes beyond knowing her favorite color, although that is certainly not a bad choice if you know it already. (Don’t ask. Really. Not this close to the holiday. Dead giveaway, man.) Think of a detail about your favorite person. This is really easier than it sounds.

It could be  her favorite sweater. Or a bright colored dress you remember her wearing last summer. Did she drag you shopping and model some crazy outfit or shoes that she just loved. This is valuable information! Pick flowers in one of those colors. On the card, you can mention the memory if you want – “For you on Valentine’s Day. These flowers reminded me of how beautiful you look in your purple dress.” Or leave her guessing for a little added mystery.

Amethyst TulipsFor Your Radiant Love

Want a color that is charming with a spark of imagination? One that inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health? These are all qualities claimed by Radiant Orchid, Pantone’s official color of the year. By picking flowers in this hue you will be exactly on trend for the season and any fashion lover or design-conscious girl will notice!

Pick Something Unexpected!

Go for a different design that includes a bright vase, cascading blooms or twisting vines. Feathers, beads, glitter, natural seed pods and hand-sculpted wire picks are some more exciting elements that can be added to any arrangement for more color and texture.  If you haven’t seen it before she probably hasn’t either! And with a talented florist at the helm you can’t go wrong.

While there is nothing at all wrong with more traditional red and pink fare,  you might be looking to mix it up for a real surprise. Different colors like vibrant yellows, perfect peaches, passionate purples, delicious oranges, snappy greens and more will make this Valentine’s Day pop!
