Decorations Feeling Blah? Try A Colorful Border of Flowers

"Colorful Border" Easter Flowers

"Colorful Border" Easter Flowers

No, I’m not talking about those horrible hotel room wallpaper borders that reek of poor taste. This Colorful Border is actually a lovely basket of flowers. It caught my eye when I was looking for an appropriate Patriot’s Day bouquet. Believe it or not, there is a Patriot’s Day.

I ran across Patriot’s Day on my calendar (April 20th, 2009) and knew that I had to do something fun. Surrounding myself with red, white and blue flowers comes later in the year so I began looking for a festive spring arrangement with some of these colors. What I found stood out in a big way so I’ve decided to share it.

What are your plans for Patriot’s Day? Mine include sending myself a little gift just because I’m worth it. After all, the world would be a much better place if people appreciated themselves. After enjoying the blue iris, magenta gerbera daisies, pink larkspur, yellow cushion poms, lavender stock, and yellow tulips of the Colorful Border arrangement, I fully intend to spend a night with my family while reliving the moments that made our country so great. In fact, it was the original American patriots that made America happen. These brave people fought for their beliefs and instilled in their children an unmovable sense of patriotism. Having died for their country, it’s no wonder that even watching a movie about these soldiers is instantly moving.

Speaking of soldiers, we have many young men and women fighting overseas and here at home to preserve our right to express our patriotism. Let’s send flowers to them for Patriots Day and show our appreciation. Your soldier or friend in a war zone? Celebrate their bravery with their wife, girlfriend, parents or other loved ones waiting patiently here. Sending the Colorful Border arrangement of fresh flowers to my friend Christina (an airman’s wife) is just one of many ways that I will enjoy the holiday this year.

Reverent or Whimsical, Easter Card Messages Say It All

Easter is one of those holidays that has become truly diverse in its celebration. Whether spending Easter Sunday in church or with friends and family, the message of love and new life remains the same. There is still an irresistible urge to tell our loved ones how we feel about them. That’s great for the wordsmiths, but for those less verbose people who want to send Easter flowers, the best message is the enclosure card message from the heart.

Whatever the choice of celebration, reverent or whimsical, there is a desire to share love through Easter gifts. Easter flowers bloom all around, inspiring friends and loved ones to send flowers. The Top 5 Easter Flower Arrangements

"Somebunny Loves You" Easter Flowers

“SomeBunny Loves You” — This is by far my favorite Easter flower arrangement ever. White carnations are given the look of little bunny rabbits hence the name. It’s cute enough for everyone regardless of age. However, the Somebunny Loves You arrangement is absolutely perfect for children.

“Easter Praise Bouquet” — Easter flowers have never looked so colorful and fun. This bouquet is decorated with Easter eggs for additional whimsy. Tulips, carnations and daisies make this an arrangement to love. The height of this arrangement makes it a great addition to coffee tables, desks at an office and other places. It’s bound to be the center of attention.

“Floral Freshness” — Easter flowers like this are simple enough to satisfy very sedate tastes. The pastel colors of lilies, carnations, roses and others make a wonderful impression. When you don’t want something over the top or excessively colorful, try this beautiful arrangement of flowers. Friends with calm or neutral home decor themes will be very appreciative of this gift.

“Lyrical Lavender” — Vase arrangements are great for many locations. Easter flowers in pretty lavender vases like this are exceptional gifts for offices, hospitals and any other place that allows the vase as well as the flowers to be shown off. Purple is a very calming color. Know someone that needs some cheer? This peaceful arrangement warms the heart with a low key lavender color.

Traditional Easter Lily” — Flowering plants are delightful Easter gifts. They last quite a while, are very attractive, and create a beautiful addition to any decor. Want to perk up someone feeling a little blue around Easter? Flowering plants like these traditional Easter lilies are exceptional options.

Happy International Woman’s Day!!!

That’s right. Sunday is International Woman’s Day 2009. I didn’t know much about it until last year when I was talking with a friend who had received flowers for this holiday. The conversation was less than enlightening and went something like this.

  • Me:  Oh cool flowers. What’s the occasion?
  • Her:  Thanks. International Woman’s Day.
  • Me:  What??
  • Her:  International Woman’s Day. It’s pretty awesome.
  • Me:  What is it?
  • Her:  *Blah blah blah* Google it.

Anyway, I took her advice and got some pretty good information. Check it out! International Woman’s Day has been around since the early 1900s. Can you imagine celebrating something like this when women weren’t allowed to vote? This was a severely restricted time for women. That took a lot of guts! Sometimes I just want to hug the women that came before us and tell them thanks for making it possible for us to be who we are.

IWD has been celebrated on March 8th of every year since 1913. That happens to fall on a Sunday this year so I recommend sending flowers a day or two early. After all, it’s the thought that counts. Even better, it’s a wonderful gesture to receive flowers from a sorority sister, secret sister or secret pal, husband, best friend or relative.

To celebrate together is an amazing thing. To stand up and acknowledge the things that our ancestors have done is incredible. To sit down together and enjoy being able to work normal hours for nearly identical pay is another thing for which to be thankful. Much in the minority among other women, I’m a bit of a chauvinist who tends to side with men. I’ll admit it. Even the ladies that fall into this group can’t help but appreciate the rights that we have thanks to brave women that preceded us.

Know a lady that exudes quality? Perhaps it’s her bravery or courage that make her stand out. Perhaps she’s the sweetest little old church lady that ever existed. Whatever this woman is/did/does to make you love her, acknowledge that with the gift of flowers for International Woman’s Day. Why not? Maybe the compliment will be returned to you one day when someone falls in love with every wonderful quality that you possess.

Get your bragging shoes on. We want to hear your stories about the women in your life that have made it possible for you to be who you are. Who are you celebrating on International Woman’s Day? Even if you’re celebrating you, share your stories with us here.

Fat Tuesday Gift Ideas For The Skinny Minny Who Needs A Hand

"Mardi Gras" Flower Arrangement

"Mardi Gras" Flower Arrangement

Believe it or not, I do get asked a lot of questions of a trivial nature. Answering them (or finding an answer) seems to be my forte in the eyes of my friends. One friend recently asked me what Fat Tuesday is and what gift he should take to a Fat Tuesday party. Interesting enough, right? Having never celebrated the holiday but having enough Catholic friends to know the basic ins and outs, I gave him the following ideas but not without a bit of information first.

Fat Tuesday is traditionally celebrated as the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. In the Catholic and Episcopalian churches, it can also be called Shrove Tuesday. Either way, Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent. The tradition of Lent is when people give up something valuable to them such as a food or a habit like smoking. Such a chaste period is hard to enter into without one last run so Fat Tuesday is pretty much the free-for-all (within reason) day of celebration.

So what would you give someone at a Fat Tuesday celebration of just as a Fat Tuesday gift? I can’t in good conscious pass up the opportunity to say “Flowers! Flowers! Flowers!” It just wouldn’t be right. I can recommend a Mardi Gras flower arrangement in the traditional colors of purple, green and gold. In the celebration, purple represents justice while green represents faith and gold stands for power. Perfect!

"Fleur De Lis" Iris Arrangement

"Fleur De Lis" Iris Arrangement

Another good idea is a king cake. Now while picking up this party cake from a New Orleans bakery may not exactly be “on the way home,” it’s still a great gift idea. Local bakeries may carry them for this special occasion or find a recipe online. The more traditional the better but it’s still the thought that counts.

What kind of enthusiast would you be if you didn’t think of a fleur-de-lis symbol first when Mardi Gras in New Orleans came to mind? This tiny symbol permeates nearly every part of my existence from jewelry to home accents. I say that to say that it’s really easy to find gifts with this name or symbol. It’s traditional and powerful all at the same time. In other words, a great hostess gift for your festive friends.

You Can Now Have Valentines Day Flowers With A Great Message

Flowers sent on Valentine’s Day should express the feelings of the sender. Did you know that the Victorian Era gave each flower a special meaning? Florists can creatively arrange a bouquet of flowers using these meanings in order to convey a special message. But that’s only good if the flowers are delivered to someone who understands the flower meaning of each flower in the bouquet. What’s tricky is that flowers can have more than one meaning (sometimes a positive one and a negative one). If the person sending flowers has a different perspective than the person who receives the flower arrangement, interpretation becomes a risky proposition. It is of utmost importance that the message is not lost in the translation. That’s where florists come to the rescue.

Local florists understand this predicament and are willing to help. Every flower arrangement, delivered by a florist, includes an enclosure card that states who sent the flowers along with flower delivery information. But enclosures cards are more than that; they give you the opportunity to send a special message to the recipient. Since we are not all blessed with a poetic voice or even the gift of gab, I asked several florists what they thought were good Valentines Day Card Messages.

Valentine’s Day Gifts Worth Remembering

Creating The Ultimate Valentines Day Gift Especially For Them

What if your Valentine is a movie buff?  Take their favorite movie, meet with your florist, and see if you can create a theme for your arrangement.   This is particularly handy when shopping for a husband or a boyfriend.  Guys are notoriously difficult to shop for on Valentine’s Day, and giving him a one-of-a-kind arrangement will show him how much you care!  Take, for example, The Godfather.  It’s a hit among many men, and your florist may be able to create a gift with the classic movie in mind. Red roses, black ribbon, hints of gold, and maybe a DVD gift set on the side will be perfect for your movie-loving man or woman!

Dating a musician?  There are numerous musical touches your florist can add to personalize your arrangement.  Sheet music, decorative music notes, and replicas of their preferred instrument are all available and easily incorporated to create a song in the heart of your most beloved musician!  It’s little touches such as these that transform the traditional into something truly extraordinary!

Your florist can also slip in a ring box, a special photo, a darling teddy bear, or whatever gift you have in mind.  Everything looks better surrounded by professionally arranged flowers! A teddy bear can hold tickets to a play, a love note, or a balloon.  Imagine your loved one sitting at work on the 14th and receiving an adorable bear holding two tickets to her favorite play!

Balloons are another great option to send to your partner at work, a child at school, or anyone else who you think deserves something fun and festive for their Valentine’s Day!  Young or old, a jolly balloon will make their day!  Your florist is stocked with balloons ranging in colors and messages.  Everything from the saccharine to the silly can be sent to your loved ones via your favorite florist!

Married or single, going out or dateless, young or old, Valentine’s Day can be wonderful for everyone!  No matter the budget or the message, your florist can create something truly exceptional for the people in your life you care about the most!  Send a little love to those who make your heart skip a beat everyday!

So What’s A Good Gift For That Other December Holiday?

Happy Hanukkah Bouquet

Happy Hanukkah Bouquet

Well, there are several December holidays that come to mind. Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Hanukkah take the lead in my mind. Hanukkah (Chanukah) and Kwanzaa are major holidays that are very understated and tend to take a backseat to Christmas. However, these are very popular holidays that merit the same kindred spirit and celebration.

But what do you do when you need to give a gift for these holidays but you’ve never celebrated them? Well, there are a couple of ideas. First, hide under your Christmas tree and hope that everyone forgets about giving gifts this year. When that fails, call your local florist.

Hanukkah bouquets are all the rage this year. Flowers are very traditional and fit the bill for every occasion. However, Hanukkah is that special Jewish tradition that is celebrated for eight (8) days. While a new floral gift each day may not be exactly right for you, marking one of those days with a colorful Hanukkah flower arrangement is a great way to spend the holiday.

Ruby Red Regalia Bouquet

Ruby Red Regalia Bouquet

But what about Kwanzaa? Kwanzaa isn’t as lengthy a celebration and is in no way Jewish. This African holiday is neither political nor religious. It’s not a substitute for Christmas. It does however inspire African Americans to reflect on the values of traditional African families. So what goes along with that? You guessed it. Flowers.

However, ask your local florist to make this Kwanzaa bouquet a bit more special. Red black and green ribbons wrapped around an red black and green arrangement is a neat idea. Another good gift idea is to send a pretty vase arrangement with a sweet card. It never fails to inspire and it lets the recipient know that you care.

So you see, it doesn’t matter much whether you celebrate these holidays or not. Sometimes doing a little research is fun too. Sending a unique gift along with a colorful arrangement of flowers is a great way to show your friends or loved ones just how valued you consider them.
