Sad Peace Lily – What Will Make It Grow?

Ask the Expert: My Peace Lily won’t grow I have a Peace Lily from my mother’s funeral, I don’t want it to die, but it just won’t grow. I have had it for a year and it hasn’t done a thing, in fact, it has lost a couple of leaves. It was small to begin with but it is looking really sad. I read the news letter about Peace Lilies and I think I may be over watering it, but what else can I do?

Peace Lily Blooms a Little Green instead of White

Ask the Expert: I have a question and was in hope you could help me. I have a peace lily and it is beautiful. It blooms continous but the blooms are always a light green instead of white. What can I do to change to white? Thank you. Patrick

Can one Peace Lily become two?

Ask the Expert: Can peace lilies be divided like hostas??

I have a huge peace lily—-can I subdivide it into two separate pots??

My Peace Lily is Anemic – Why?

Ask the Expert: What’s wrong with my peace lily? I have had my peace lily for several years and in the last few months the leaves keep fading. It still blooms and still puts on new leaves but they also fade before long. I water it about once a week.

Wilting Peace Lily – Am I A Killer?

Ask the Expert: I have a large peace lily. I discovered some kind of bug in the soil. So I repotted the plant. But first I sprayed the roots with water to wash alot of the dirt from the roots to make sure the bugs were not in there. They I transplanted it into new soil and sprayed the top of the soil with bug spray that is suppose to be harmless to plants. The next day my plant isn’t happy and it seems that it is almost wilting. Will it perk up or did I just kill it? Is there anything I could do for it or have I done enough? Veronica

Peace Lily Light Requirements

Ask the Expert: Peace Lily – Lighting shade or brighter light? I’ve read conflicting care info specifically light requirements for the peace lily. One plant book says bright indirect light, another source says low light. Mine currently is receiving low light- does it need more? No signs of yellow leaves. SLS

SLS,

The great thing about Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily) is that it can take both bright indirect light and low light levels. I have noticed that in low light levels it tends to stretch and may not be a full as it is in bright indirect light. The important question for you is “Does my plant look healthy and green?”. If your answer is yes then your lighting is fine. If it doesn’t – rule out pests, fertilizer and watering problems before you change the light exposure.

Caring For Peace Lily

Lou asks:

Hello,

I’m not sure you are the ones I should contact with my questions, but if not – maybe you could inform me who I SHOULD get in touch with. I’m certainly not a whiz on the computer, so I didn’t really know where to go.

I need to know how to care for a Peace Lilly. Once the bloom is gone, do I cut back the leaves, etc? Do I plant it outside and if not, should I put it in a bigger container? I really need help in caring for it from start to finish. Watering, feeding and the questions above.

Thank you for your time.

We just published a newsletter on the “Care for Peace Lily Plants” back in March. I think it covers most of your questions. You can view the newsletter by clicking on the following link or you can cut and paste it into your address bar.

Unless you live in a tropical environment your Peace Lily will not do well out side. The size of pot will really depend on a lot of factors that could only be handled in person, your local florist will be glad to assist you further. If I can help in any other way please let me know.
