Ask the Expert: re Lucky Bamboo
Hello I have just purchased 3 Lucky Bamboo .
Two questions I have for you…
1) Mine has root “hairs” coming out not only at the bottom of the stem but on a couple of places further up the stem….so should I put in sufficient water to cover up to the highest roots on the stem.
2) My container is a tall blown glass vase bulbs at the bottom …then waisted….then flared out at the top. The 3 stems are well supported but do they need stones/marbles/glass beads or semi precious i.e. rose quartz…for food or energy value? Thank you for reading this. Rose.
Rose,
It is acceptable practice to cover the roots with water. In your case, I would make sure that the water level was equivalent to the bottom of the highest root but not higher than the root. As for fertilizer, lucky bamboo doesn’t require much food. I would wait to fertilizer it and when you do use a very diluted water soluble fertilizer solution. Stones, marble etc. are used for aesthetic and stability reasons only. Since your lucky bamboo is in a container that gives it both there is no need to add marbles, stones, etc. We have a couple of article about lucky bamboo which are worth reading. the first is a newsletter called Caring For Lucky Bamboo and the second is our care sheet for lucky bamboo called Lucky Bamboo Plant Care. Good Lcuky and please keep me posted.
