Ask the Expert: What kind of succulent plant could this be?
I found these beautiful Aloe-like succulent plants in a friend’s garden and took some of it home. I’ve planted them in Pots and they’ve grown tremendously. In Diameter the one on the photo is about 20cm and it prefers shady areas with a little morning sun. Could you please tell me what their name is? All my friends love them and I gave them the little babies growing from the stem below. They grow easily with little care and water.

There are over 300 species of Aloe. I think this is an Aloe aristata.
Although it looks a little like Agave utahensis but it doesn’t seem to have long enough hooked spines on the end for this plant.
I just noticed you email address is from South Africa. If this is a native plant then it is definitely an aloe and I’m pretty sure it is the Aloe aristata.
