Easter celebrates the renewal of life and the promise of spring. As with every celebration, Easter is entrenched with traditions.

Easter Lily Traditions

Representing the essence of Easter, the Easter lily symbolizes purity, virtue, innocence, hope and life. According to legend, the sweat droplets that fell from Jesus during the crucifixion sprang forth the Easter Lily. Remembrance that life springs eternal is ever present with the Easter Lily.

Easter Egg Traditions

The Easter egg is a symbol of fertility and a symbolic gesture of new life.  To some the Easter egg symbolizes the grave and by breaking it life is renewed. Going back to pagan times the Easter egg was used to celebrate the rebirth of life in the spring. Spanning many cultures and ethnic groups through out history, the Easter egg has always been a symbol for new life.

Easter Basket Tradition

The Easter basket originated from a pagan custom of carrying new seedling to be blessed.  In early years of the Roman Catholic Church, the Easter basket was filled with food and taken to church to be blessed.

Today we celebrate Easter many different ways, but for the same reason to celebrate life.  The Easter Bunny fills our Easter basket with Easter eggs, chocolate bunnies, candies and even flowers.  We display the Easter Lily proudly in our homes and churches.  We do all this in remembrance that life is renewed.
