Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Father’s day is an excellent time to honor the father figures in your life. Traditionally the holiday is celebrated by giving gifts and cards. Fathers, stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers and “big brothers” will greatly appreciate any Father’s Day gifts they receive. Typical gifts for dad are tools, ties, or auto related, but this year give him something he will really enjoy.

Are you looking for great Father’s day gift ideas? Father’s Day gifts do not have to be elaborate or expensive. Think about the activities your father enjoys and plan a day together spent doing his favorite things. The time spent together will be very valuable to him. Dad and son or dad and daughter will both cherish the memories created that day fishing, hiking, golfing or doing whatever it is that he loves.

Maybe you can’t be with your father on his day, but you can still let him know how much you love and appreciate him. Send him flowers. Be sure to pick out a flower arrangement that reflects your dad’s personality and conveys your love. Even if you can’t spend the special day with him, he will know how much you care. Red and white roses are the official Father’s Day flowers. Ask your florist to incorporate red and white roses into the arrangement. The founder of Father’s Day suggests wearing a white rose on Father’s Day to honor a deceased father and a red rose to honor a living father.

The history of Father’s Day is one filled with love and admiration on a personal level. In the spring of 1909, after hearing a sermon about Mother’s Day, Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired to create a holiday that would honor fathers in the same way that Mother’s Day honors mothers. So that year she started the movement to establish Father’s Day as a way to honor her father William Smart, a Civil War Veteran. After his wife died in childbirth, Mr. Smart was left to raise six children on his own while sacrificing many of his own dreams and goals in his effort to provide them with a loving home. Within a year she was successful in holding her first Fathers Day celebration and the multi-decade movement began to grow. The first official Fathers Day was recognized by congress in 1956 and is celebrated in June in honor of Mr. Smart’s birthday.

Whatever you decide to give your father he will appreciate that you thought about him on Father’s Day.
