Why We
Have Grandparents Days
The
first Grandparents Day was celebrated in West Virginia in 1973. Five years
later congress passed legislation making the first Sunday after Labor Day the
nationally recognized day to honor our Grandparents. Signify reaching ones
autumn years September was chosen as the month to pay tribute to our Grandmas
and Grandpas.
Spending
time with your Grandparents, sharing memories and stories of their lives are
some of the best times we (grandchildren) can have. When we can’t be with our
dear Grandparents on their special day of recognition, we send lovely flowers
to let them know how much we cherish them and love them.
Ideas
For Grandparent’s Day Flower Arrangements
Grandma
will love a "Nanna’s Flower Garden" arrangement. Perhaps your Nanna grows
certain flowers, loves roses or gerbera daisies; if so you can have your local
florist make a special arrangement with all your grandma’s favorite flowers.
Grandfather will love the "Remember When Bouquet"; have your florist create a special flower arrangement and tuck in a card with a favorite
time you and he shared … this one is guaranteed to bring a smile.
It is
also a good time to send or give flowers to shut-in’s or those in nursing homes
who might just be in need of a special day of recognition. Why not use Grandparents
Day to provide someone a special day, it will bright up their lives and enrich
yours.
