Don't Get Pinched on St Patrick's Day -- Send Flowers!
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated March 17, 2010, and while it's not a holiday on which you would typically
send flowers to loved ones, it is a day worth celebrating. Named for one of Ireland's beloved saints, this holiday has been celebrated since 1737 by the Irish and many other cultures. St. Patrick's Day parades are held annually in many U.S. cities and green is the color of the day. Chicago dyes its' river green; Atlanta dyes its' fountains green. Whatever you do, don't forget to wear something green on St. Patrick's Day or you're sure to get a pinch!
Shamrocks are also associated with St. Patrick's day because St. Patrick was said to have used the shamrock leaf to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish. People wear Shamrock pins, hats and jewelry to commemorate the day.
St. Patrick's Day is a fun day to celebrate, wear green, eat corned beef and cabbage, and drink green beer, but beyond that it is a great opportunity to encourage others by sending flowers or plants. We can all use a little luck and good wishes (especially in this economy) and St. Patrick's Day is a prime time to send some "luck o' the Irish" to a friend or loved one to wish them well (maybe during a hard time). It will brighten their day to receive a glorious green floral bouquet or an ornamental cabbage, but mostly it will be your thinking of them that will make their day. Your local florist has creative ideas for St. Patrick's Day flower arrangements, so think of someone who needs a "pick-me-up" and send some luck their way!
